Menopausal Support: Supplements and Hormone Replacement Therapy

Perimenopause is the body’s transitional phase into menopause, during which women may experience symptoms such as irregular periods, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and mood swings. This phase may last between two to eight years.

Menopause is characterized by the discontinuation of the menstrual period for 12 months and also lower production of estrogen and progesterone. It typically occurs in women around age 51, but can start as early as ages 40-45. Common symptoms can include hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, burning, and itching, sexual dysfunction, bloating, weight gain, depression, and insomnia.

Compounded bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (cBHRT) may alleviate menopausal symptoms and help maintain bone strength and heart health. It uses hormones with the same structure as those naturally present in the body, which may reduce side effects associated with synthetic hormones. Kusler’s and Clark’s Compounding Pharmacies offer cBHRT in a variety of delivery forms including oral capsules, topical creams, sublingual drops, suppositories, vaginal creams, and troches or lozenges.

Nutritional supplements may also provide relief. KC Pro-Nutrients pharmacists recommend these supplements for menopausal symptoms:

  1. Active B Complex from KC Pro-Nutrients supports healthy mental function and mood. It supports health of the brain, heart, gut, nerves, eyes, and immune system.
  2. Jarrow Formulas BoneUp slows down bone loss due to decreased estrogen levels during menopause.
  3. Vitamin D3 from KC Pro-Nutrients helps the body absorb calcium to keep bones strong. D3 supports brain and immune function, prevents cognitive decline, and helps with mood.
  4. Optimal Magnesium from KC Pro-Nutrients supports energy production, bone health, and cardiovascular health.
